Getting a book from idea to publication is not for the feint of heart, especially if the book in question involves collecting interviews and stories in the midst of an 800-kilometer hike across Spain. Your support on Kickstarter will fund the technology needs for the trip, pay for printing and web hosting, and give me hope that the project is one worth pursuing.
With your support, I will be able to record video and audio stories, transcribe text, and have the time to produce this blog and, ultimately, a book-length version of The Camino Tales. A small pledge (though don’t let that limit your generosity!) will make the project possible and build my faith that there is an audience eager to hear the stories pilgrims share on the Way.
This project is important to me on a personal level as well. Much of the writing I have done in my life has been divisive political writing that was often more about scoring points on the other side than building bridges between us. Writing The Camino Tales is a step towards the kind of writing that appeals most to me, writing that can help us find our shared humanity in our limitless diversity of experience and thought.
I need time on The Way once more. Badly.
As with any Kickstarter project, there is some risk that this project will not come to completion. The past two years have certainly taught us that nothing–perhaps most of all travel–can be taken for granted, but I am committed to seeing this project through.
